Letter from state police leaves Sayreville woman angryPosted: Updated:
A state trooper crashed in Sayreville nearly four years ago, which triggered a lengthy investigation. Recently, the New Jersey State Police sent a letter to a Sayreville resident, whose full-size SUV was hit by the officer.
State Trooper Detective Thomas DeMeo's slammed into Michele Bruce's car. News 12 New Jersey video from that night in 2007 shows the airbag that deployed in DeMeo's car, as well as a second car that was damaged and a backyard fence that was hit.
Bruce says what troubled her more than the property damage was her belief that the trooper was drunk.
Police officials sent a letter to Bruce in June of this year stating that the investigation "developed sufficient evidence" to substantiate allegations of "unsafe operation of a troop car" and "consuming alcoholic beverages."
DeMeo says that it was his first exacerbation with Multiple Sclerosis, he just didn't know it at the time. DeMeo took a medical retirement last August.
