Reports of baboon sighting leave Jackson Township residents on edge

Six Flags Great Adventure Safari is trying to determine whether one of its monkeys escaped from the park after a girl reported seeing a baboon in her backyard.

Park officials and local police searched the area last night, but came up empty-handed.

Police then told News 12 New Jersey that the baboon was spotted near Winterberry Boulevard this afternoon. Several other sightings in the area were also reported.

A Great Adventure spokesperson says it has not been determined that the baboon that's been sighted escaped from its giant enclosure at the nearby theme park. It says it has been working closely with authorities at each sighting. Six Flags says its baboons are all micro-chipped, so if it is found, it will be able to confirm whether it is from the park.
