Baboon's quest for freedom comes to a close with capture

The female baboon that escaped last week will not get to spend Independence Day free roaming through New Jersey.

Officials say they captured the baboon this afternoon in Howell after reports came in that residents had seen the animal wandering though their neighborhoods.

The baboon likely came from Six Flags Great Adventure theme park in Jackson, according to park officials.

The animal was tranquilized and taken to the park, where zookeepers say the baboon will be quarantined until it is determined that the baboon is healthy to be reintroduced back into the facility.

Reports of baboon sighting leave Jackson Township residents on edge
