Bear makes 6th appearance in residential areaPosted: Updated:
Officials with the State Division of Fish and Wildlife say a 265-pound black bear has been captured for the sixth time in a residential area.
In May 2010, the bear was spotted for the first time in Pasippanny and removed. Since then, it was caught in Somerville, North Brunswick, Hightstown and Monroe. The animal was most recently captured in East Brunswick.
Each time the bear, known as bear number 6131, is caught, it is moved to wildlife management areas, away from populated spots. However, the animal keeps returning. It's believed the bear was run out of its native Northern Jersey habitat by more dominant males.
It's believed 6131 is on the hunt for a female bear. Authorities have placed a satellite collar on the bear to keep track of him.
