Gang sweep takes 11 MS-13 gang members off the street

A gang sweep in Union County took 11 MS-13 gang members off the street tonight. Nine adults and two juveniles were arrested in the bust.

The gang members are accused of murders in Plainfield. At a news conference Thursday afternoon, Union County Prosecutor Ted Romankow said the Plainfield Police Department along with federal agents busted four gang members, who were plotting to kill a rival gangster and another man because he slapped one of their members in the face.

Also in custody are four men charged in connection with a string of Plainfield murders over the past two years.

Prosecutors say accused killer Walter Gomez and Kelvin Mejia are still on the loose. They are charged with conspiracy to commit murder for targeting their own members.
