NJ woman paddles up coast for good cause

Rip currents and strong winds forced a Medford Lakes woman to bring her stand-up paddleboard ashore, ending her journey up the coast.

Margo Pellegrino was attempting to complete a 127-mile trip up the New Jersey coastline. Pellegrino set out early Monday from Cape May. She went on her trip to help a friend whose child is suffering from neuroblastoma.

Pellegrino hoped to finish her trip this afternoon, but she decided to come ashore around 3 a.m. in Ship Bottom on Long Beach Island because conditions had gotten too rough.

The 44-year-old is an avid paddler and has made much longer trips before, including a trip from Miami to Maine.
