Boil water advisory issued for United Water customersPosted: Updated:
United Water says a boil water advisory has been issued for customers in Fort Lee, Palisades Park, Englewood residents east of Grand Avenue/Engle Street, Englewood Cliffs, Tenafly residents east of Engle Street and Leonia.
The advisory was issued following a water main break in Englewood Cliffs. Customers are being instructed to conserve water until further notice.
Police say the 30-inch water main break occurred in the area of Route 9W and Hollywood Avenue in Englewood Cliffs. Officials say the break occurred when repairs to a smaller leak were being made, and a valve was damaged.
United Water says customers in the affected towns will have to boil their water for one minute before drinking it, using it in any food preparation or consuming it in any other way. Water does not have to be boiled before taking a shower or using it to wash dishes or clothes.
United Water officials say they are working with the Bergen County Office of Emergency Management to coordinate the response. United Water General Manager Jim Glozzy says the utility will be working overnight to restore service. He says he expects repairs to be completed tomorrow morning.
