Turnpike Authority takes steps to ease Bayonne traffic

The Turnpike Authority says it has a plan to alleviate one of the worst areas of congestion in the state of New Jersey.

The authority says it plans to move a utility building to make room for three additional toll booths. The proposal also calls for creating a new ramp and widening an existing one to improve traffic flow.

Officials estimates about 3,600 vehicles travel the toll plaza in Bayonne each hour. They say they expect the number to double by the year 2035.
