Bear surprises Raritan Borough residents

Raritan Borough residents were surprised to discover that a bear climbed up a tree in town today.

The bear has since been tranquilized and removed from the tree by the New Jersey Department of Fish and Wildlife.

Neighbors came out earlier today to get a glimpse of animal in the tree. Witnesses say the bear ran up the tree like a squirrel.

Police say the bear was struck early this morning by a car traveling on Route 202. They say it is unknown at this time what type of injuries the bear may have sustained.
