Tense standoff comes to an end in Ewing

Shots were fired earlier today during a standoff at the Versailles Apartment Complex in Ewing, police say.

The shooting prompted a heavy police response. When police arrived, they found the body of a man lying dead in the parking lot. They say they were unable to remove the body from the area out of fear that they would have been in the line of fire.

The suspect holed himself up in his apartment for over 8 hours. Police were able to bring the standoff to an end, but not until the suspect turned the gun on himself.

The suspect and the shooting victim apparently lived near each other, but state police would not give a motive for the shooting, that is under investigation.
