Manahawkin Lake once again open to public

After being deemed too polluted for swimmers, Manahawkin Lake in Stafford Township is finally open to the public.

The lake, located off of Route 72, reopened as temperatures soared Monday.

Birds were at the root of the problem in the lake, as there were once so many birds that their droppings heavily polluted the water. The county worked hard to reduce the geese population and now bacterial levels are within safe swimming standards.
