Gov. Christie: Medical marijuana law can go forward
(AP) - New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie says he will allow the state to begin dispensing medical marijuana despite his concerns over whether federal authorities could prosecute stateregulators.
New Jersey legalized marijuana for patients with certainconditions last year as Gov. Jon Corzine was leaving office. Butthe law's implementation was delayed as the state labored overregulatory details.
Last month Christie said he wanted assurance from federalprosecutors that they won't pursue criminal charges againststate-sanctioned medical marijuana programs before he agreed toimplement the law.
He didn't get that assurance, but says he doesn't believefederal authorities will expend limited resources to go afterpeople complying with state law.VIDEO: Interview with a medical marijuana patient VIDEO: Gov. Chris Christie's press conference on medical marijuana
