1 person found dead in house fire in Freehold

Police are investigating after a body was found in a house fire early yesterday morning in Freehold.

Officials say the fire broke out at a home on Jackson Mills Road.

Residents say the home was occupied by a man and his live-in girlfriend.

Detectives with the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office, the sheriff's department and Freehold police spent the day continuing their investigation and gathering evidence, but have not yet released any other details.

Authorities are waiting for test results to provide a positive identification on the body, but the homeowner's brother tells News 12 New Jersey that all indications point to his brother, 42-year-old Michael E. Conway, being the victim.

John Conway says his brother's girlfriend managed to escape the home and call 911.
