Hearing held on Long Beach Island about beach access
Some fear the beach might not be so easy to access in the near future if proposed rule changes for public access are approved.
The state DEP has been taking the pulse of Garden Staters, during a series of public hearings on rules for access to beaches by the public.
The DEP says municipalities should decide where people can hit the beach, but they still want public access every half mile.
One of the arguments by people opposed to limiting public access is that if the state is going to spend taxpayer money on replenishing the beaches then the public should have access. For the next few months the DEP will sift through the public comments to decide its final public policy.
