Girl dies after falling from Wildwood boardwalk Ferris wheel

(AP) - A 11-year-old girl has died after falling from a Ferris wheel on the Wildwood boardwalk in New Jersey.Capt. Lynn Frane of the Cape May County Prosecutor's Officeconfirmed the teenager died Friday after she was brought to a localhospital.

Wildwood Police Capt. Robert Regalbuto told The Press ofAtlantic City the ride was in motion at the time, and the girl fellfrom its upper half.

The incident happened at 12:30 p.m. Friday at Morey's Mariner'sLanding Pier. Morey's said in a statement the cause was beinginvestigated but did not appear to be mechanical. Meanwhile, theFerris wheel and a few rides were closed.

"The Morey staff and family offer our thoughts and prayers tothe family," the statement said.
