Polls open for New Jersey primary

Polls have opened across New Jersey for the state's primary elections.

Voters have until 8 p.m. to select the candidates who will run in the November election.

Two powerful Democratic lawmakers are fighting to keep their jobs today while many of the other races will run uncontested.

Sen. Ray Lesniak has been in the Legislature 34 years. Joe Cryan is the Assembly Democratic leader. They're being opposed by candidates in the mostly minority 20th District in Union County.

Lesniak is facing Elizabeth school administrator Jerome Dunn. Cryan and Assemblywoman Annette Quijano are opposed by Elizabeth Board of Education affiliates Tony Monteiro and Carlos Cedeno.

The incumbents have raised $2.5 million. A judge temporarily froze the challengers' assets after questions arose about how they raised and recorded campaign donations.

News12.com will have full election results as the polls close.
