Jersey City recycling center to change guns into art

(AP) - Police officials from New York and NewJersey were on hand Tuesday to receive more than 900 illegalweapons that will be shredded for use in a statue.

The "Peace Angel" statue will be donated to the NYPD's lowerManhattan headquarters.

Police Commissioner Ray Kelly visited Sims Metal Management inJersey City, where the guns will be recycled. He says he hopes thestatue will inspire people to turn in their guns.

The Art of Peace Charitable Trust is making the statue. Thewinged angel will stand nearly 5 feet tall and consist ofconfiscated and repurposed street weapons and non-radioactivenuclear missile casings.
