Mayor: Morristown transformer fire caused by heat
Like many other towns across the state, Morristown dealt with scorching temperatures today, which seem to be the cause of an underground transformer fire.
Earlier this afternoon, two transformers beneath South Street caught fire, knocking out power to some nearby homes and businesses. Morristown Mayor Tim Dougherty says the suspected culprit was the unusually hot weather.
Morristown did get some relief from the heat by way of a quick-moving rainstorm, which also brought some damaging winds and lightning.
