Lead testing urged for children in Upper Ringwood

State officials are warning parents in Upper Ringwood to get their children?s blood tested for lead. The town is home to the Superfund site where Ford Motor Company dumped paint and other wastes several years ago. The state Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) tested 19 properties for lead contamination, and 10 showed levels above the current safety standard. DEP officials say they are not sure if the lead came from the Superfund site or an alternate source. As a precaution, the Department of Health is offering free lead screenings for children under the age of 6. They have yet to work out the testing locations.
