Newark building fire displaces more than 100 elderly, disabled
A fire at an apartment building in Newark forced the evacuation of more than 100 elderly and disabled residents last night.
The fire started on the fourth floor of the building on 120 Dayton St. and led to smoke billowing out of the building.
Officials say the fire was quickly extinguished but because of the nature of the fire, the electricity had to be cut off, forcing the evacuation.
Authorities say there were no injuries from the fire.
The Red Cross set up a shelter at a nearby school and is assisting with placement until the building can be deemed safe.
