Tanning business may feel the burn if legislation passesPosted: Updated:
Lawmakers are hoping to delay exposing minors to excessive cancer-causing UV radiation with new legislation, but tanning salons are opposing the bill.
The bill must be approved by the full Assembly before it goes to the state Senate. If approved, teenagers would still be allowed to use spray tans as long as their parents give permission.
Currently, New Jersey law states that teenagers from ages 14-18 can use tanning beds with parental approval.
Doug Arena, who owns The Perfect Tan in Lawrenceville, says the new legislation has the potential to be a major blow to hundreds of small business owners across the state.
