North Arlington asks residents to report neighborsPosted: Updated:
The town of North Arlington only has one code enforcement officer. Officials say they could use more, but the budget is tight. Instead of hiring more people, they're asking town parking officers and residents to keep an eye out.
The town calls it a "positive thing in a tough economy." However, many residents tell News 12 New Jersey they think it's anything but. Some feel they can't trust their own neighbors.
Councilman Chris Johnson says, "We do encourage that if there is a violation that the neighbors actually contact the town and once again, it's not meant to punish anybody. It's meant to maintain the values in our town."
