Prosecutor charges West New York teacher in baby beating

(AP) - A New Jersey mother has been chargedwith assaulting and endangering her 1-month-old baby, who was foundabandoned outside Weehawken High School.

A court-appointed lawyer for 37-year-old Tamara Reyes ofWeehawken entered a not guilty plea for her Wednesday in a JerseyCity court. Reyes is charged with aggravated assault, endangeringthe welfare of a child and child abuse. She is in custody and bailhas not been set.

Hudson County Prosecutor Edward DeFazio says Reyes' 1-month-olddaughter was found June 10 face-down on a sidewalk in front of theschool and not on the school steps as originally reported.

Reyes was stopped nearby by police for driving erratically.
