Police: Gas station owner killed chasing down thief

Police are investigating after a gas station owner was killed chasing down a thief this afternoon.

Officials say that a thief entered the Getty Gas Station on Route 15 in Jefferson Township which was empty since the owner, Nisan Ambaroglu, was outside pumping gas. The thief then took a few lottery tickets from behind the counter. Ambaroglu then stepped back inside the store where the thief then bought something and left.

As soon as Ambaroglu noticed the missing lottery tickets he ran out after the thief and managed to get his hands inside the thief's car and was dragged about 120 feet until he lost his grip and was run over by the car, killing him, according to authorities.

Police describe the suspect as a dark-skinned man in his mid to late-20s, 5 feet 11 inches to 6 feet tall and about 150 pounds. He is wearing a white T-shirt and jeans with an Oakland A's baseball cap. He was seen driving a tan Toyota Highlander SUV.
