Mosquito Control Commission out in full force
Middlesex County Mosquito Control was out in full force Monday, killing larvae on the verge of becoming mosquitoes.
Crews were spraying a bio-pesticide along ditches in Edison, next to a bike path. The Middlesex County Mosquito Control is hoping to kill the bloodsuckers and cut down on the number of bites people receive from the 42 types of mosquitoes known to live near Edison.
As an alternative to spraying, the state's Department of Agriculture is raising copepods in its lab, crustaceans native to New Jersey that eat mosquito larva. Officials say it's an experiment, but it's a promising, natural way to wipe out mosquitoes.
