Elmwood Park police accused of writing too many tickets

The Elmwood Park Police Department is under fire for writing too many tickets.

Some residents say they believe that the department has been writing them up to make up for the budget gap.

Police Chief Don Ingrasselino says that the department is "not looking to just raise revenue."

Ingrassalino admits the number of tickets written in Elmwood Park has tripled over the past 10 years, from 6,000 to 20,000. He says that's because officers have learned to do their jobs better.

Elmwood Park sits in the middle of four major highways, Routes 4, 80, 46 and the Garden State Parkway. More drivers pass through, so that gives officers more opportunities to stop the ones who break the law.
