Reports: MetLife vying for New Meadowlands Stadium name

The home of the Giants and Jets may soon have a name.

MetLife is reportedly in advanced talks with the NFL teams on acquiring the naming rights to the stadium that will be the site of the 2014 Super Bowl, Sports Business Daily reported yesterday. The deal would be worth a reported $17 million annually.

A New Meadowlands Stadium spokesperson told News 12 New Jersey today that they do not have a naming rights deal and will not comment on rumor or speculation.

MetLife currently pays about $7 million annually to be one of four cornerstone sponsors for the stadium that opened last year. The other cornerstone partners are Verizon, Anheuser-Busch and PepsiCo.

Fans that News 12 New Jersey spoke with today were spilt on the idea of a new name for the stadium.
