Search suspended for missing Coast Guardsman

Officials have called off the search for a Coast Guardsman who fell off a speedboat.

The Coast Guard says Petty Officer 1st Class Nicholas Holmes and another man were tossed from the 23-foot boat after being rocked by a wave left by another boat on Saturday night. There is no posted speed limit in the area.

The other man, who reportedly sustained a fracture to his arm, was immediately pulled from the water.

The Coast Guard says it launched an air and sea search of the Tices Shoal section in Lacey Township before calling it off Monday night. Officials say 78 square nautical miles were searched.

Holmes was an active duty member of the Coast Guard stationed at Air Station Atlantic City as a machinery technician, according to a Coast Guard news release.
