Bloomfield mayor insists animal shelter to remain open

Bloomfield Mayor Ray McCarthy says he has been getting more than 100 emails a day about the Bloomfield Bukowskli Animal Shelter, pleading with him not to shut it down.

McCarthy says that there is no need for residents to worry and that it will remain open. However, Canise Taboadela, one of the many volunteers at the shelter, says that the Bloomfield Board of Health, which oversees the shelter's funding, has to make budget cuts that could jeopardize the facility's existence.

The mayor says he understands how passionate animal lovers can be, but he doesn't know what more he can say or do to convince doubters.
