Former Perth Amboy Mayor Vas sentenced on state charges

Former Perth Amboy Mayor Joseph Vas and longtime aide Melvin Ramos were sentenced today on state corruption charges.

Vas was sentenced to eight years in prison, including five years without the possibility of parole. He was sentenced to more than six years in prison on federal fraud charges earlier this week.

In November, Vas pleaded guilty to state corruption charges of money laundering to receive illegal campaign donations.
