Residents express fear after Paterson lays off 125 officers

Paterson residents say they are concerned about crime after the city laid off 125 of its police officers.

"This is a big city, there's enough crime going on with the police force we have," city resident Rosalind Randolph said yesterday. "If you limit what we're going to have it's going to make it worse."

Layoffs in the city's police department began yesterday and will run until Monday.

Officials say the force will be reorganized to put more cops back on the street.

Paterson's police director says economic realities are hitting several cities across New Jersey. He insists anyone who calls for help will get it.
