Lincoln Tunnel race raises money for Special Olympics

It may not have been rush hour, but the south tube of the Lincoln Tunnel was jammed as runners made their way through the tunnel to raise money for Special Olympics New Jersey on Sunday.

The 25th Anniversary Lincoln Tunnel Challenge 5K race started in Weehawken, coursed under the Hudson River and back for the 5 kilometers.

Some of the runners said they enjoy helping a good cause while others said they just wanted to opportunity to do something in the Lincoln Tunnel other than be stuck in traffic.

Officials say the race raised nearly $200,000 for the organization.
