Man charged with fatal shooting near Newark arena

Newark police have arrested a man in a fatal shooting that occurred near the Prudential Center last week.

Kyron Washington is charged in the murder of 42-year-old Arlene Fields of East Orange. Another person was shot but survived.

The 23-year-old Washington was arrested late Monday morning. The Newark resident is charged with murder and attempted murder. He was being held on $750,000 bail and is expected to make his first court appearance later this week.

The shooting occurred Thursday night at the corner of Broad and Market streets, less than a block from where auditions were being held for the new reality show "The X Factor."
