Police: Woman hacked to death with machete by ex-boyfriend
A woman was hacked to death with a machete Thursday as she sat inside her car in her driveway in Midland Park.
Police say Suzanne Bardzell was fatally stabbed by her ex-boyfriend, Arthur Lomando.
Lomando, of Long Island, was arrested Thursday night after throwing himself in front of a New York City subway train. He suffered severe head and leg injuries, and was transported to a hospital for surgery.
According to police, the two dated for three years. Earlier this month, Bardzell filed a restraining order against him.
Lomando is a former officer of the NYPD. He was fired in 2004 for making misleading statements to a superior officer.
Bardzell was a special education teacher in Teaneck, and mother of two teenaged sons from a previous marriage.
A prayer vigil in Bardzell's honor is scheduled for Sunday at 3 p.m. at Borough Hall.
