Saturday marked one-year since the murder of a Newark woman in a case that has since gone cold.
Police say Lamont Stephenson disappeared after killing his fiancée Olga De Jesus. She was found dead of asphyxiation inside her townhome at the Steven Crane housing complex in Newark by her cousin.
Several hours after the murder, police spotted Stephenson at Newark Penn Station on surveillance video. Since then, detectives have searched in New Jersey, Virginia and the Carolinas. He has not yet resurfaced.
Stephenson is considered a wanted fugitive. Police and family are hoping reintroducing his face in the media will spark some leads.
Stephenson has four children from two previous marriages. Olga's family believes Stephenson is in the southeast being hidden by family.
"It's just hard because she was so happy with him. This wasn't supposed to happen," said De Jesus' brother Felix. "A year later, we still don't have justice."
A motive for the killing is unknown. By all accounts, the couple was happy and set to be married in 2016.
