5-year-old boy wanders away from Bloomfield school

A young boy who walked out of school is safe after a passerby found him wandering down the street by himself in Bloomfield.
Bloomfield police say the 5-year-old boy wandered away from the Brookdale Elementary School on Broad Street just at around 12 p.m. Wednesday. The boy apparently slipped away while playing outside during recess. The children were being watched over by a youth aide.
A good Samaritan saw the boy walking and grabbed him before he could get hurt. She brought him to the Friendly's restaurant nearby. The manager then called police.
Bloomfield police responded, and the boy told them he was supposed to be at the school. Dispatchers called the school, and a secretary and the principal came to pick up the boy.
Police tell News 12 New Jersey that no criminal charges will be brought against the school, but the school may discipline the youth aide.
