A woman and her two children were injured after they were struck by a vehicle on U.S. Route 9 in Lakewood.

Police say a 27-year-old woman was pushing her children, ages 4 and 1, in a carriage across the intersection of U.S. Route 9 and Edgewood Court at around 10 p.m. when the collision occurred.

Authorities say the woman suffered a facial laceration, while the children both sustained serious head injuries. All three were taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center. The mother is listed in stable condition and the two children are listed in critical condition.

A Lincoln Towncar was towed from the scene at about 12:30 a.m. A stretch of the roadway was closed for several hours while police investigated the crash. The roadway has since reopened.

Police say the Towncar was operated by a 50-year-old Toms River man. Police have not filed any charges related to the case.

Anyone with information is asked to call Lakewood Police Officer Dowden at 732-363-0200 ext. 5322.
