A nearly 200-year-old tree is the subject of controversy in one Morris County town.
There have been calls to cut down the 175-year-old oak tree in Chatham due to concerns that it could fall and injure someone.
A group called the Chatham Boro Shade Tree Commission says the historic tree is healthy and they are fighting to keep it.
"The tree has been looked at by two tree experts to certify that the tree is healthy," says Ken Fekete with the commission. "It will last another 30 years."
Members of the Chatham Boro Shade Tree Commission and borough officials met Monday night to further discuss the fate of the tree.
