Family, friends call for justice in firefighter's hit-and-run death
Family and friends of the Somerville firefighter who was killed in a hit-and-run five months ago are holding out hope for an arrest in the case.
George Kavanaugh was struck by a vehicle on March 6 at around 9:30 p.m. as he walked outside the Lincoln Hose Company to wait for his ride home.
Jake Hoffman, also a fireman in town, recently created a Facebook page to reignite the public's interest in the search.
He says he wants people to start talking again, and hopes renewed interest will convince the driver to surrender.
There is a $15,000 reward for information in the case that leads to the driver.
A witness has suggested that the suspect may have been driving either a Honda CRV or a Volvo XC60.
Adding to the mystery of this case is a theory proposed by some that the suspect may have actually been a member of the Somerville Fire Department. That theory is based on a witness account that a car was idling in the driveway of the firehouse when Kavanaugh walked out.
