Driver charged in crash that injured 4 people, 3 officers

Authorities say a man was driving drunk and speeding when he caused a multivehicle crash that left three police officers and four people injured in Jersey City.

Thirty-year-old city resident Keith Jeffers allegedly tried to flee the scene of Sunday night's crash but was detained by police. He's charged with four counts of assault by auto and single counts of drunken driving and knowingly leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident with serious bodily injury.

Authorities say Jeffers' vehicle rear-ended a car that struck a parked vehicle. That vehicle ended up on a sidewalk, where it struck the officers and two people. Two people in Jeffers' cars were also injured.

Two of the injured officers were treated and released, while the other remained hospitalized Monday in stable condition. The four civilians were all released.
