Township officials: North Brunswick warehouse fire contained

Township officials say firefighters in North Brunswick have contained a massive fire that broke out earlier this week at a warehouse complex on Livingston Avenue.
Crews are expected to remain on scene into Friday night as hot spots still exist.
Environmental officials continue to monitor the site and surrounding areas for air quality concerns, township officials say. The approximately 200 residents who were evacuated from their homes due to the smoke will not yet be allowed to return.
Residents will be allowed to retrieve essential belongings from their homes with a police escort. The shelter at the Linwood Middle School will remain open on an as needed basis.
The fire started Wednesday at around 2 a.m. in the rear of the warehouse complex. At the height of the fire, smoke could be seen as far south as Ocean County and the smoke plume showed up on weather satellite. One hundred fire companies from 11 counties came to fight the fire.
Township officials say fire operations are expected to continue for several days.
