Lightning and thunder prompted judges at the Belmar sandcastle contest to end the competition early Wednesday afternoon.
Luckily, all of the sandcastles were completed before the contest was called off, which means judges were still able to pick the winners.
Many of the contestants say the rain did not bother them, and even made the construction somewhat easier because the sand was able to stick better.
