One person was killed after a 4-alarm fire broke out in an apartment building in Morristown late Monday night.
The fire broke out at around 11 p.m. at 15 Pine St. The building housed four apartments and an empty business space.
Many of the residents were able to get out of the building on their own, but one had to be rescued from the roof, along with his dog.
"The man handed his dog over to the cops...and then he rescued himself," says neighbor William Mailler. "He seemed quite shaken up by the whole incident."
Most of the units inside the building were destroyed by the fire. The Morris County Prosecutor's Office has confirmed one person died. The victim's name has not been released.
Seven residents will now be staying with friends and family. The American Red Cross will help provide them with food and clothing.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
