Children's author hopes to promote NJ History

A historical home in Bergen County is about to be featured in a children's book.
Author Robert Skead of Wyckoff has just published the book "Patriots, Redcoats and Spies." It's about 14-year-old twins who go on an adventure to find George Washington in New Jersey during the American Revolution.
Much of the book takes place at the historic Van Allen House in Oakland, where George Washington spent time while he was a general in the war.
Skead says he hopes the book promotes New Jersey's important history.
"We also want to edify and inspire the courage of George Washington and the Colonial Patriots," says Skead. "This house gave me the idea for the book, so by coming here with my family years ago, I was inspired. We want to inspire that in the community too."
The Van Allen House is currently undergoing renovations. It is a popular place for school trips, where kids learn about the Revolutionary War.
