5 fired over Hoboken day care abuse video
Parents at the Apple Montessori School in Hoboken met with school administrators Friday evening after a video surfaced showing a staffer's allegedly rough handling a toddler in the day care.
Five employees of the school have now been fired.
The situation came to light after a video was posted on Facebook that appears to show an employee of the school shoving a 2-year-old after struggling to put on the child's hat. The video quickly went viral and was shared nearly 15,000 times.
According the officials, the school's director and assistant director had the video since June 4. They were fired for mishandling the situation, along with a teacher and two teachers' aides.
The owners of the school released a statement saying, "We are outraged by the lack of care and concern this former employee showed. We do not condone this type of behavior in any way, shape or form."
At the meeting, parents were told surveillance cameras will be installed to watch over the children.
Parents who attended the meetings tell News 12 New Jersey they are concerned that the school's management had the video for so long, but did not act until now.
The person who filmed the incident did not respond to News 12 New Jersey's request for an interview.
