Suspected arson fire displaces a dozen residents

A group of residents from a Somerset County apartment complex have been put out of their homes after a suspected arson.

Fire broke out at around 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Avalon Watchung apartments near Crystal Ridge Drive. Watchung police say they are investigating a possible arson.

A resident tells News 12 New Jersey that someone poured gasoline down a garbage chute and then set it on fire.

About a dozen people have been displaced. There is no word on when they will be allowed back home.
