4 arrested in deadly Newark Mother's Day teen shooting
Authorities have announced four arrests in connection to the Mother's Day shooting that left a teenager dead in Newark.
The Essex County Prosecutor's Office and Newark police announced Friday that 19-year-old Jaqeuce Spinks and a 16-year-old were charged with murder and weapons offenses in the death of 15-year-old Al-Shakeen Woodson. Marquise Cephus, 18, and an unidentified 17-year-old face weapons charges.
Woodson was gunned down in the area of 19th Avenue and South 16th Street around 7:45 p.m. on Mother's Day after the annual "Blessing of the Bikes" rally. Three other people, including Spinks, were injured in the gunfire.
Authorities said the shooting was the result of a petty high school dispute that Woodson had nothing to do with.
More than 250 people gathered Thursday evening for a candlelight memorial to honor Woodson.
Woodson's death is the 29th homicide of the year in Newark. Members of the Essex County motorcycle community have donated $2,000 to Woodson's family.
