Incumbent Mayor Nicholas Sacco has won the election once again in North Bergen.
The race between Mayor Sacco and North Bergen businessman Larry Wainstein had become heated over the past few weeks, as both candidates called the other on corruption and shady dealings.
After the polls closed, Mayor Sacco came out the winner with 8,237 votes to Wainstein's 4,287 votes.
"I'm just very ecstatic that people saw through what they were doing and the majority voted for us," Sacco says.
Sacco ran on his record of providing good services to the community. He also pushed the fact that there was no tax increase this year.
A third candidate also ran. Enrique Marrero ran alone and only came in with 580 votes.
