New ‘Buddy Bench’ hopes to end to bullying
A Scotch Plains elementary school has rolled out a new tool to put an end to bullying.
Students and faculty at Evergreen Elementary School attended the unveiling of the school's new "Buddy Bench."
Students who may not feel included in recess activities can go sit on the bench and other students are supposed to come up and talk to them and include them in the fun.
"It's not always that they don't have any friends," says Principal Colleen Haubert. "On that particular day, maybe their friends are playing something they're not interested in, but now someone will see them and ask them to play."
Principal Haubert hopes the bench is used as a way for students to make new friends. The school got the idea from a school in Pennsylvania where the "Buddy Bench" has been a great success.
