Wayne PD to report shoplifting parents
The Wayne Police Department has a new plan to deal with parents who commit crimes with their children in tow.
The new policy will be to immediately contact the Department of Children and Families in these cases.
"We have to give them a chance to grow up and become productive citizens," says Wayne Police Capt. Laurence Martin. "If we step back and don't do something, we're basically abandoning these kids to future lives of crime, and we can't have that."
The new policy comes after two shoplifting incidents at the Willowbrook Mall. In one case, two women were seen stuffing more than $1,000 of merchandise into backpacks their children were wearing.
